Is a housing affordability shift coming?

Learn what is Australian Labor Party's proposed Help to Buy program - will this only help new home buyers, what does it say about Lender’s Mortgage Insurance.

It’s official that the Australian Labor Party (ALP), led by Anthony Albanese, will form Australia’s new Federal Government. How ordinary Australians can be supported to become homeowners has emerged as a key policy interest on both sides in this election, with the ALP’s proposed Help to Buy program aiming to reduce the cost of purchasing through a shared equity approach.

The government will co-purchase up to 40% of a new home, or 30% of an existing one, with eligible buyers able to put down a deposit of as little as 2%. If rolled out, the program will extend beyond first-home buyers, and remove the need for Lender’s Mortgage Insurance (LMI).

We exchanged two properties this week - 501/19 Verona Drive (two bed in Yukon), and 301/46 Amalfi Drive (one bed in Messina), with the latter selling off market and setting a building record for a one bedroom at $610,000.

If you’ve been eyeing off the rarer gems in the waterfront estate of Wentworth Point, this week we have two St Tropez sanctuaries ready to share their cool breezes with you: 307/7 Stromboli Strait, a north facing two bed with spacious open plan design, dedicated living and dining zones with lush pool and garden views; and 704/7 Stromboli Strait, a two bed with corner water views, fresh, versatile spaces indoors out, and a study nook.
