Lane Cove is located on Sydney’s lower north shore. It is 9 kilometres north-west of the Sydney CBD, in the local government area of the Municipality of Lane Cove. It is situated on a peninsula on the north side of Sydney Harbour, at the opening of the Lane Cove River.

Getting there and getting around

Lane Cove is most easily accessed via a number of bus routes. These include the 140 and the 254 routes of the Sydney Buses Network and HillsBus also operates a few services within the area. The area is included in a ferry service that operates on Lane Cove River. The closest railway station is Chatswood, a distance of around 2.7 kilometres. A cycle path connects the Lane Cove River to the Pacific Highway and also links up to other cycle paths in the area.

Lifestyle and population

Lane Cove is a popular and affluent suburb. It has a small shopping area located mainly around Burns Bay Road where there are also a number of cafes and restaurants. The suburb is well known for its beautiful park lands including Tambourine Bay Park and Burns Bay Park, as well as areas of bushland surrounding the numerous creeks and rivers in the area. The Lane Cove Aquatic Centre is a popular recreational facility.

Lane Cove has a population of just under 9,500 people. About 62% of Lane Cove residents were born in Australia. Significant other countries of birth include England (5.9%), China (2.6%) and New Zealand (2.4%). The highest percentage household demographic is couples with children at nearly 46%.
