Lilyfield is an inner west suburb of Sydney. It is located 16 kilometres west of the Sydney CBD, in the local government area of the Municipality of Leichhardt.
Getting there and getting around
There are several bus routes that service the Lilyfield area. These include the 440, 444 & 445, and the 470 services on the Sydney Buses Network. Lilyfield tram stop is located on the Dulwich Hill Line of Sydney’s light rail network. There is no train station in Lilyfield, the closest being Petersham Railway Station, about 3 kilometres away, located on the Main Suburban Line (serviced by the T2 Inners West and South Lines of the Sydney Trains Network). There are several bicycle paths in the area.
Lifestyle and population
Originally a working class area Lilyfield has gone through a process of gentrification and is a popular location for development, renovations and investment. Many houses are stand alone workers cottages from Federation and Victorian eras. There are also some mid rise multi dwelling developments. The area is home to a small commercial shopping area called Orange Grove Plaza and a number of parks and recreation areas. These include Leichhardt Park and Trevor Street Playground.
